On December 3rd, President Xuan Fuzheng met with Professor Kiran Ockahan, President of Bahrain Polytechnic, and her delegation. The two parties held discussions on ing educational cooperation between the two institutions, facilitating faculty and student exchanges, and strengthening research collaboration.
Xuan Fuzheng reviewed the history of cooperation between ECUST and universities in the Middle East. He noted that ECUST has significant disciplinary advantages in fields such as chemistry and chemical engineering, intelligent manufacturing, and resources and energy, and has established a solid foundation for cooperation with Gulf countries in talent cultivation. He expressed hope that both sides would strengthen exchanges, build consensus, and jointly explore sustainable, multi-level, and wide-ranging cooperation models to cultivate more high-quality, application-oriented engineering and technical talents for the Middle East.
Ockahan provided an overview of Bahrain Polytechnic. She stated that the university is ranked second among higher education institutions in the Kingdom of Bahrain and is a well-known polytechnic university in the Middle East. Noting the high compatibility between the two institutions in specialized fields such as chemical engineering and intelligent manufacturing, and the substantial potential for cooperation, she expressed hope that deepening the partnership would advance scientific research, talent development, and cultural exchange, while also injecting new momentum into the industrial development of Bahrain and the Gulf region.
During the visit, the two universities conducted in-depth discussions on topics such as 2+2 international joint multi-degree undergraduate programs, the collaborative development of part-time professional master's programs for working professionals, and short-term student exchange programs.
Dr. Louise O'Noran, Registrar of Bahrain Polytechnic, and Dr. Li Zhen, Director of the International Office, participated in the discussions, along with relevant heads from the President's Office, the International Cooperation and Exchange Office, the International Education College, the School of Chemical Engineering, and the School of Mechanical and Power Engineering at ECUST.
