Recently, Gong Yue, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Secretary of the Commission for Discipline Inspection of East China University of Science and Technology (ECUST), led a delegation to visit Korea University and Seoul National University in South Korea upon invitation. The delegation held in-depth discussions with the two universities on issues such as joint talent cultivation, collaborative scientific research innovation, and faculty-student exchanges in frontier fields including legal studies and bioengineering, and reached multiple consensuses.
Focusing on Frontier Legal Studies, Jointly Building a New Platform for Talent Cultivation and Academic Exchanges
Prof. Seong-Taek Yun, Vice President of Korea University, warmly received Mr. Gong Yue and his delegation. Both parties reviewed the fruitful cooperation outcomes achieved since 2018, particularly following the visit of Party Secretary Jiang Chuanhai to Korea University in 2024. The discussions focused on the development of academic disciplines, talent cultivation, and internationalization efforts within the law schools of both institutions. They also exchanged views on the common challenges and opportunities facing legal education in the context of globalization. Building on their strong academic foundation and shared vision for the future, and witnessed by Mr. Gong Yue and representatives from both sides, the law schools officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), establishing a new platform for cultivating high-caliber legal professionals with a global perspective. After the meeting, Mr. Gong Yue presented Korea University with a certificate for the East China University of Science and Technology–Korea University Friendship Scholarship and extended a sincere invitation to Korea University students to visit and engage in academic exchanges, contributing as young ambassadors to deepen mutual understanding and e friendly cooperation between China and South Korea.

Benchmarking Cutting-Edge Bioscience and Engineering: Discussing Interdisciplinary and Collaborative Innovation Research Centers
During the visit to South Korea, the delegation held working talks with Professor Byungchul Kang, Dean of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Seoul National University, and Professor Ju-Hoon Lee, Associate Dean. Mr. Gong Yue stated that this visit comes at a critical time for deepening international cooperation, providing a vital opportunity for both sides to enhance mutual understanding and expand collaboration. He emphasized that the essence of international exchange lies in people-to-people connections and expressed hope that this visit would further facilitate interaction and the collision of ideas, deepening mutual understanding and laying a solid foundation for broader and deeper cooperation in the future. Professor Wang Qiyao, Associate Dean of the School of Biotechnology, engaged in detailed discussions with Korean professors and scholars on potential areas for collaboration, leveraging the university's strengths and development plans in related disciplines such as bioengineering and food science. In-depth discussions were also held, and preliminary consensus was reached, regarding the signing of a college-level MOU, plans for jointly applying for inter-governmental cooperation projects, and the feasibility of jointly establishing an international academic research center. After the meeting, Mr. Gong Yue presented the certificate for the East China University of Science and Technology–Seoul National University Friendship Scholarship to the host institution.

This visit focused on addressing the practical needs of disciplinary development, aiming to transform high-quality international educational resources into new momentum for the university's high-quality development. It has laid a solid foundation for advancing the upgrading of discipline construction and enhancing the international competitiveness of talent cultivation. The delegation accompanying the visit included Zhong Weimin, Dean of the School of Information Science and Engineering; Zhao Hong, Dean of the School of Foreign Languages; Wang Qiyao, Associate Dean of the School of Biotechnology; Ren Hu, Professor from the School of Law; and Zhang Wen from the International Cooperation and Exchange Office.
